March 6, 201313 yr ...see here: http://blog.pulse-eight.com/2013/03/01/usb-cec-adapter-now-available-at-amazon-com/ I can highly recommend this piece for using it with your XBMC/Openelec based HTPC. No need for an extra remote...just use the one from your TV.
March 6, 201313 yr Author ...the glue is libcec support from pulse8. Since XBMC frodo, it ships as standard. IMHO there is a OCX implementation...at least pulse8 had their own package for Eden: http://packages.pulse-eight.net/
March 6, 201313 yr Author ..one word of wanring: stay away from this if you own LG TVs or equipment...LG's cec implementation is crappy...most likely you will get disappointed when trying to use this. Not a fault of pulse8 though.
March 6, 201313 yr So my TV supports this and I run XBMC - what exactly might I use it for? I can see that it's possible to power up things all at once but my TV and stereo are usually off while my PC stays up. What pother actions can be done? I'm curious and if there's some usefullness here and the price is right I'll jump on it just to experiment lol.

This will allow you to use the TV remote to control your XBMC session Edit: I see that the feature description on amazon is a litlle "immature". Here's a quote from the pulse8 product page... How does it work? All modern TVs support HDMI-CEC a technology that allows devices to talk with each other over the HDMI cable, using this feature this adapter will send and receive remote key presses to XBMC or MythTV or Windows Media Centre or any other app that supports libCEC on your PC
March 6, 201313 yr Hrm, I'd be happier if my MCE remote via XBMC could control other things actually. My new stereo and TV are both CEC compatible but so far I've not seen a way to use it for anything. Have to read the manual and ponder before spending $55 for this puppy :-O
March 6, 201313 yr Author Hrm, I'd be happier if my MCE remote via XBMC could control other things actually. IMHO you need another type of app to use it the other way round...technically possible, because I have a TV which can be controlled by my BluRay player (via the bluray's remote), but I doubt this is implemented in XBMC ATM...maybe a good idea for a plugin As to the price, I agree...but for me, this thingy was the best increase for the WAF on my setup.
March 8, 201313 yr Author The geniuses over at raspbmc have libcec built in ...the real genius move was to build the CEC controller into the Pi, so libcec will work "on bare metal" and you don't need an adapter like this
