March 12, 201313 yr I am planning to build a small NAS for a friend and came across these two boards. My friend wants NAS to consume the least amount of electricity and it has to be small (thinking PC-Q25B). I am leaning towards C60M1-I because it uses less energy (9W vs 18W), fanless, 6 sata, and price. E350M1/USB3 looks good too though because better CPU and USB 3.0.. My question is.. is C60M1-I powerful enough for sabnzbd & sickbeard? I am not planning on doing any sort of transcoding.. I just need to get those two running. Do I need to go with E350 to get that to work? What do you guys recommend?
March 12, 201313 yr Author Your par/rar processing is going to be really slow on either board I'd think. Man.. I was afraid this would be the answer. Would I be better off going with this then? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131841 And probably going with Celeron G1610 since it's only $35 over at microcenter Edit: or this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116407 Hm.....
July 14, 201312 yr I will have to look and see if I can find some real numbers on the par/rar speeds. But I'm happy with my C60M1-i. I like that all of the ports are sata III and its super low watts. But really if you're just sitting there refreshing sabnzb looking at the screen waiting for a download, you're never going to notice. I run sabnzb, sickbeard, xbmc, mysql for xbmc and myth backend, utorrent and was running tvheadend. It is able to stream multiple mkvs. I even was running virtualbox but that was pushing it.
July 18, 201312 yr Something like these would work too: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138368 http://www.amazon.com/MSI-7835-001R-C847MS-E33-Mainboard-mATX/dp/B00B4M33WA About 25% faster than the E350 and 1w less TDP, and is 50% faster than the C-60. Only downside to them is they have only 4 SATA ports. However, a cheap $5-10 2 port SATA card will bring you up to the 6 ports of the AMD boards. The MSI board is nice because it has some decent expandability with a 16x PCIe slot and two PCI slots. It's also fanless like you mentioned.
