3TB or 4TB

Featured Replies

I have a mixture of 2TB drives and 1TB drives and need to upgrade. I'm running out of space. I'm planning on getting all 3TB drives. I just can't afford 4TB models right now. Althought I may grab a couple, not %100 sure. Anyway, I will need to sell my old drives when I replace them. These are all WD Black models all still in warranty. This is why I only buy these models, not because of performance (you don't get that with unraid anyway) but because of resale value. If anyone would be interested in buying any drives, please let me know. This will be a slow upgrade process. Not all at once. I've listed all my WD drives and their warranty status. Some of them have lots of life left in them and warranty to be used in someone's upgrade. Anyway, let me know if you would be interested in buying any. I would swap out a drive one at a time, then want to sell the drive I just removed. I cannot do this all at once. Thanks.

Prices for 2TBs?

Very interested in picking up a few 2TB's or even 1TB's. How much are you asking? I'm in no rush so like you said, I'd definitely be ok with doing it one drive at a time.

I also want the drive with the warranty ending 3/30 because that's my birthday. :)

I'm responding to the previous post also.

I'm still up in the air about what size to get. 3 or 4 TB sizes. The thing is I still have 1TB drives in my system. I could go real cheap and just replace those with 2TB drives, but who knows when I'll run out of space again. Of course if I go the 4TB route, it gets very expensive. Since I only buy the WD Black drives, they are quite expensive, and I only buy them for the 5 year warranty.

For the 2TB drives I would probably price them around $100? Retail on them are $175. And all these have at least 3 years left on warranty. I think that's pretty fair, right?

For the 1TB drives I would probably price them around $60. Retail on these are $100 on Newegg. And these all have at least a year warranty or more on them. I think that is fair, right?

I thinking of replacing my parity drive first (of course) and that's a 2TB drive. If someone wants to buy this drive, please message me. I will most likely be replacing my parity drive in the next week or two.

Thanks

opentoe - i am building first UNRAID system and am interested in a few of both your 1 and 2 TB drives.  Thanks.

Thanks. I'm going to replace my 2TB parity drive very soon and then another 2TB drive after that in about week or two. The only thing I can do is when I have them available post them here that I got them who ever responds first? I wouldn't know what the fairest way would be, since a couple of people messaged me also. If you have any suggestions, let me know. I just want to be fair that's all.

Thanks.

I would even take bitcoin for payment. I'd prefer that much much more.

In my opinion I think the most fair would be to go in the order of people who contacted you via posting in this thread and via PM. A free for all seems a bit much since you already posted this thread gauging people's interests. When you're ready to sell a couple drives, contact these people in order. If they pass, then move to the next one.

Thanks. That makes sense.

I have a 4TB drive coming this Wednesday to replace my 2TB parity drive. If you happen to be interested in this 2TB drive for $100+shipping please let me know. Believe it or not this drive still has 4 years left on warranty. So it is completely covered if anything happens to it in 4 years. I listed the drive below in red so you can see which drive I'm replacing in the list. Parity has to go first. These are all Western Digital Black drives. All 7200 RPM, 64MB high speed cache, so they are good for any application other than your unraid server too. I don't use paypal and would really like to use Bitcoin but we can talk about that privately. I've been on this forum for a while and also operate a small forum myself. So I'm not going anywhere. I guess the best thing to do is work with FIFO (first in first out). Whoever responds to this thread FIRST I'll contact you first to see if we can work things out. If we can't work it out then I'll contact the next person interested if there is one. Just respond to this thread with anything like "I am interested" and then send me a private message. Since this is the buy/sell/trade board this all should be fine here.

Also, if you have any questions please let me know and I'll try to get back to you right away.
