March 15, 201313 yr Is it possible to move all drives that are currently connected to the mobo SATA ports to the MV8 ports? For sure I will keep the order 0-7 but I would like to have all drives connected to my new card as I'm planning to install ESXi 5.1 and would like to passthrough the MV8 to unRAID. Makes sense?
March 15, 201313 yr Make a note of which drive (serial number) is your Parity drive, and which is your cache drive (if you have one). When you move your drives, if they're not automatically detected you can assign them to the correct slots based on the serial numbers.
March 15, 201313 yr That should be no problem. Because you're already running unRAID V5, you should be able to stop and power down the server, move connections and restart. The array will come back up without any need to alter any configuration.
March 15, 201313 yr Author Thanks a lot, the change was working really well; I kept the order of the drives and after the next boot everything shows up as nothing changed.
March 16, 201313 yr I kept the order of the drives... Even that is not necessary - you could even just move some of the drives from one controller to the other and unRAID won't bat an eyelid.
March 16, 201313 yr I believe since 5.0 (or whenever, I joined on 5.0R11, so, can't blame me for not knowing) unraid works based on serial numbers and not on physical ports, you don't have to do anything if you're using the latest version, just unplug & replug; at-least, I didn't have to. If worse comes to the worse, I believe you can just click the button that has "It'll briefly read from each drive" under it and I'll fix everything (order wise, assuming it's the same unraid configuration).
