Pre-clear issue on new drive

Featured Replies

Ok let me say first that I screwed up.  I had 500 gig WD green drive that I suspected was going bad, so I replaced it with a new 2 gig WD red drive.  I realize now that I should have pre-cleared the new drive before pulling the old drive from the array, but for whatever reason I wasn't thinking clearly.  So pulled the old one, put the new one in, and turned the power on.  I had forgotten that the new drive would be auto assigned, and when I tried to run the pre-clear script it obviously didn't work.  So at that point I just let the data rebuild proceed, and the new drive seems to be working well.  I ran a long smart report, and these are the results.  Does everything look ok to you guys?  I'm curious about this entry "Self-test execution status: ( 249) Self-test routine in progress...90% of test remaining."  I disabled drive spin down prior to running the test.  Did the full test complete?

Well since nobody is throwing their 2 cents in I am going to just assume all is well for now.  I'll just keep on eye on the new drive, and run a smart report on occasion for the next few months to make sure nothing goes wrong.
