March 19, 201313 yr I have a drive that seems to be giving me problems. First few times I noticed that when the drives sleep and eventually spin up, the light on my 10th drive would stay red (meaning it's active) and I couldn't access it. I couldn't even shut down the pc properly but had to cold power off. When I rebooted the pc, a parity rebuild started and when it finished the activity light stayed on again. I powered off etc. But now when going to the management console (4.7) I noticed it's has a red ball. Just curious if it's possible to switch the drive placement with another drive in the array to see if it is the drive or the slot (I'm using a 5x3 Icy Dock cage)? Is there anything special I need to do when switching the drives around?
March 19, 201313 yr Author Nevermind, I switched the drives around in the array and the red ball followed. Damn! Bad drive.
March 19, 201313 yr Someone else would need to confirm this but I believe that a drive that has been red balled will stay red balled untill action has been taken... So the fact that it followed would not necessarily mean its the drive. But as said, I am not fully sure on this..
