[SOLVED]Help, what have I done?[Shares visible again]

Hi

Hope someone can help. I setup an Unraid server trial using 2 data and one parity disk. I loved the stability but not the transfer speed so upgraded and added an 80GB cache drive. I stopped the array, added the drive, restarted and assigned the new drive to the cache slot and then formatted it. Speed tests showed no difference so I changed the min free space in share settings to 70000000(70GB) but then all my shares disappeared. The shares were OK after upgrading. If I re-create the shares nothing shows when I browse to it. The data is all still there if I browse to Disk1, Disk2. The top level Data share had a red ball against it but the pictures2 share was green when I recreated them but both showed no data. I did not preclear the cache disk first, assumed formatting would be enough. Layout is thus:

Disk1

          Data

                    public......

          Media

                    movies.......

          Pictures.........

          Pictures2.........

Disk2

          Data

                    public......

          Media

                    movies.......

          Pictures2.........

Shares were set to High water, 500GB min free, Slit level 2, included Disk1, Disk2

I am running ver 5.0 beta 14

Thanks in advance. Any help re setting up my shares would be appreciated.

Since you added the cache disk after creating the shares you would need to change the share settings to use the cache disk.  I suspect that is why your speed did not change when you added the cache in the first place.

Hi

I did change the share settings to use the cache before testing, sorry didn't put that in the OP. It was when I changed the min free space in the share settings tab that I lost my shares.

syslog attached. I can see that I have HPA errors which I need to sort but surely this wouldn't cause this.

A User share gets a red (or orange) ball because when there is data on the cache waiting to be moved to the array.

I didn't know that, makes sense when you think about it. So it was working OK then. I deleted the share thinking it had a problem, doh!!!

Thanks for that.

Where I am now is that if I create and export shares with the same name as the top level directories they appear in the browse list but when I open them no data is showing but if I browse to Disk1 or Disk2 I can see the data OK. Any ideas?

Another thing, when I now create a new share I can browse to it but can't add any data even though it is exported, uses both disks etc. copies fail saying no data.

It might be worth upgrading to the 5.0RC12a release (the current release candidate) as if you are going to have problems investigated that is a better place to start.  If you decide to do this, make sure that as part of the upgrade process you do not forget to run the New permissions utility to ensure that all your folders/files on your shares have the correct permissions.

IT'S WORKING, whoohoo. Thanks itimpi, upgrading to rc12 has brought my shares back and the cache drive is working fine now. Thanks very much.
