Plugin Suggestion: Webgui File Explorer (with a hitch)

Featured Replies

I'm not going to even pretend to know anything about plugin design.  However, I do think I have an idea that has merit and didn't know where else to put it.  If this is the wrong place, I apologize and feel free to move it.

Anyway, I had a recent need to move a lot of data from one drive to another.  The scenario was this:  my brother-in-law has recently built an unRAID server.  He bought 2x 2TB drives and had them shipped to my house for the purpose of populating them with some "data".  :)

Anyway, I asked in the General Support forum what would be the best method for doing this.  In the end the answer was to add one drive at a time as a cache drive, let unRAID format it, create the needed folder (to match my BIL's share name) and begin moving data.

Naturally, the best solution to move the data would have been to use Midnight Commander and do it via console.  Unfortunately, the data I was moving would not make it very convenient to do it this way.  So, I ended up just doing it on a Windows 7 machine...copying from one share to another.

Then I had an epiphany...

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a Midnight Commander (or Windows Explorer) interface within the webgui that is capable of performing share --> share or disk --> disk transfers without sending the actually data through the system initiating the transfer.  This actually reminds me of the FXP which kinda works the same…server --> server FTP xfers without send the data the through the client machine…only the control data gets passed.

What do you guys think?  Possible?

John

I am not sure if this can help you but you can download extplorer and put it on your web server if you have the plugin. I run it fine but I havent tested it to copy and move stuff . All you need to make sure to run new permission after to put the right permission in place. Let me know if this works for you.
