March 27, 201313 yr I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard and CPU around $200 range with ram included I was looking at this mobo with this cpu and ram ASRock B75 Pro3-M http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157329 Intel Pentium G860 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116405 G.SKILL 8GB (4GBx2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314 Total = $202 I currently have 11 drives running on old hardware from 2006 with 4gb ddr2 memory I think it's time for an upgrade and want to be safe about it. Server runs 24/7 Any suggestions would be appreciated
March 27, 201313 yr ...I'd go for an Ivy Bridge CPU. Better overall Performance, lower TDP and less power-draw during idle. You can get a G2020 for 5USD less: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116886&Tpk=pentium%20g2020&IsVirtualParent=1 ...or a G2120 for 10USD more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116777&Tpk=pentium%20g2120&IsVirtualParent=1 than the price of the G860....the G2020 will match the G860 for sure, I think. The IGP is of no real use anyways with unRAID, besides during boot-up. For a benchmark, see: http://www.servethehome.com/intel-pentium-g2120-review-benchmarks/ Edit: for G860 and G2010, you only need DDR3-1333 RAM...only G870 and G2120/G2130 support the 1600 speed index natively
March 27, 201313 yr Author decided to drop down to celeron G540 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116408 and drop from 8gb to 4gb ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 this knocks off $50 from total price
March 27, 201313 yr Why not G1610? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116889 Same price ($49.99), better benchmark score from http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ (2366 vs 2618), ivy bridge, and lower power consumption (65W vs 55W)
