October 18, 200817 yr All, I have been using a sonos system for years and running an unraid server for a year or so. Up until today, it was 4.2.3. Due to restructuring of servers, I moved all of my audio to an unraid server. When told the sonos to find my music library there, it fails to work. I get no errors, but eh sonos software just spins saying it is updating the music library, but never completes. Tonight I upgraded my unraid box to 4.3.3 to see if that would make a difference. No go. Anyone have any experience with the sonos system? If I cannot make them work together, I can manage that. (though I had hoped to convert all 4 tb of space to unraid at some point) but I cannot confirm the negative or the positive. I would love to get this working. Your wisdom is appreciated. David Nowakowski Did you set up the ID and password the Sonus unit uses when it logs onto the unRAID server? Is it looking for a "Sonus" share? i\or a specific folder for your music? I don't have a sonus unit, but just thinking off possibilities. I know when I set up my mediagate mg-35 media player I needed to add a user "media" and set up its password to the one the media player uses, otherwise, it saw no files.
October 20, 200817 yr David, I am also Sonos/Unraid user and it is working fine for me. two questions for you: 1. How long did you let the Sonos Indexing run for ? Mine took well over an hour. 2. Are you using Disk shares or User Shares ? My setup is currently using Disk shares so I would be interested if there is a problem when using User Shares, Cheers, Kent
October 22, 200817 yr Author Ok then, some facts about my setup. 173 GB of VBR MP3 files. Using disk shares. Set up one first called audio, pointed Sonos to it on the network left it overnight. No Joy. Pointed the Sonos to the auto share called \\Unraid\disk6 let it run overnight. Still not working. Sonos software at version 2.6. Sonos plugged into an ethernet cable directly to a Gigibit switch. Same cable works for everything else. That about sums it up. Very frustrating, though it is nice to hear that you have it working. gives me some faith that it is possible. Thanks, David
October 22, 200817 yr Author So after typing up my response to Kent earlier tonight, I went and tried a few things. I have made progress, but not exactly good progress. Up to this point, I have been pointing the sonos software to a share that contains a 170 + GB of music. So tonight, I dropped a single album on another unraid disk, created a new disk share and pointed the sonos software to it. It worked. Sort of. After 15 minutes or so, it came back and showed that music in my library. When I began playing it, however, it took about 25 seconds to start playing the first song, then it skipped (never had sonos do that before) and pressing next takes about 15 to 20 seconds to go to the next song. It is acting like the network is ungodly slow. I know the Unraid box is fine, I stream HD-DVD iso's fairly regularly. As an additional test, I dropped another single album onto another file server I have, actually a traditional 3ware raid setup, created a new share and pointed the sonos software to it as before. This time it took only about 10 seconds to respond that it had finished. When playing tracks from that album, the response is instant in the sonos software where the music on the unraid server is sluggish to respond. Any thoughts on what might be the issue here? I am in the process of mapping my entire network now to see if I have any ip conflicts or collisions happening. Thanks all, David
