Which batteries for a APC UPS.

Featured Replies

I own a APC build UPS which uses the RBC7 UPS. This batteries needs to be replaced. Should I get Original APC battery or a third-party "compatible" one? The Original might be the safest choice, but also the "best"choice? These APCs cost a small premium and compatibles can be had for half that price or less here in Holland/Europe. Does any of you know a reliable choice for compatible batteries in Holland/Europe?

I've got 5 APC UPS' in my house. One has the original batteries it came with, the rest all have third party replacements I bought off Amazon. The ones I got on a Amazon are actually rated a bit higher too.

Can you specify what brand those replacement are?

Might try to get one from Amazon.de

I order these. They're from a company called Chrome Battery. They're rated at 8Ah vs. 7.2Ah stock APC batteries. I'm using them in 3 APC ES 550s and an RS 1000.

Hmmm ... my local APC service centre prices their APC-branded batteries at the equivalent of a little over ten pounds.

Pounds meaning £? If so you're lucky because I've never seen prices like that in $USD on APC brand batteries anywhere and here in the states we usually get better prices than Europe on pretty much everything electronic. Best I could find was about 75% more than the $18.30 I paid at the time for the 8Ah (vs. the 7.2Ah the APC brand are rated at) batteries from Chrome Battery.

I guess that this is a result of lower distribution and sales costs here in Philippines (labour rates are very low here - the shop assistants will be receiving the equivalent of around US$7 per day.).

So, as an indication - that battery would be equivalent to more than two days typical wage.
