I have a vista ultimate pc which i use for a media center in my living room.  in order to get certain movie playback to work properly i need to have a drive mapped to my movies share.  so i mapped the M drive to \\storagetower\movies.

 

and when i map it, it works fine.  but after a reboot, the drive is still there and mapped but if i try to access it in any way it says that it cant connect.  i can still access it by going directly to \\storagetower\movies but the mapped drive just doesn't work until i disconnect it and then re-map it.

 

what is up with that?

sounds like vista ultimate isn't.

somewhere there's a tick-box to make the shares persistant... did you check it?

 

meanwhile, I use a symbolic link which creates a directory entry which is actually the shared folder on the server....

 

mklink /d c:\movies //server/movies

 

that ALWAYS works
