April 5, 201313 yr Hello Fellow Unraid, I hope you have a nice day. My server Plus, code name Chopstick, had been in service for 3 years, or so. During those times, it has one red ball and I manage to, with the help of fellow Unraid, replace the red ball drive and everything were up and running. I returned the WD drive and they promptly replaced it. Today my daughter discovers that the DVD directory suddenly disappears! gaps!! I quickly get on the console and scan the drive. They are all green. Next I check the free column. The disk free size is correct, which mean the dvd directory did not got delete. What I did next is I got to the server and hit the red button, cut the hard line, slap the panic button. Actually, I just hit the power down button which actually orderly power down. Then I took a shower and start the server again. The server power up and got online. I was able to have it started. Every thing is green across the board. Next I start looking in every other directory and eventually I found the dvd directory. It now resides in documentary directory. My questions are. First how did it it happen, would look in the log help.?. what should I look for. Second how do I get the dvd directory back to where it was. Dvd directory is about 1TB so I was sure it couldn’t have move in 20 minutes time. From the time I last saw it, to the time my daughter discover it. At this time I have not do anything else to it. Thanks you for your help.
April 5, 201313 yr You can move a directory within seconds if the files are already on the unRAID server. I strongly suspect that it was 'user error' when the wrong action was taken on a share. I have 'lost' folders myself when I accidentally dragged one folder on top of another with the result that the 'dragged' folder ended up inside the one I accidentally dropped it on.
April 5, 201313 yr Author Thanks for response. I agree that the DVD must have accidental move over. How do I move it back here is the layout: accessing Unraid console from one of the PC, the Movies directory should contain as follow: Movies/DVD Movies/Documentary But now it Movies/Documentary Movies/Documentary/DVD so is it all I have to do is click on DVD and hold down the the mouse button, then drag it back out to Movies directory ?. How do I set the read only option ? Thanks for your help.
April 5, 201313 yr Yes, drag and drop should be fast if the files stay on the same disk. Change the unRAID user that your currently using to have read-only access to each share. Create a new user on the server and configure that user with full access in each share. Call the new user "admin".
April 6, 201313 yr Author Whew!, I did it, I drag the directory back to where it should be and it take only a second!. Sorry for raise the alarm over such a mundane issue. Every time there is a hiccup or abnormal behavior, the possibility of permanently damage or lost suddent crop up so that a profational help it needed. Thanks again for hand holding me. Chopstick is back to operational status ! at once. What did we do before unraid.. and home theater...
