unMENU 1.6 - now available (A major upgrade in appearance)

If there is a suitable slackware package that does not require any UI then it should be possible to get it installed simply by downloading it and storing it in /boot/extra (or flash/extra if done via the network) without having to use unMenu.  The standard unRAID start-up process automatically picks up and installs any slackware packages' stored at that location.

Right I thought that too because I've done just that.  However here is the sequence of events I just went through.  However it seems like what is offered up at the slackbuild page is not an actual built package but the script to build it automatically from source.  The script makes a call to MAKE.  So then I needed gcc and I decided the easiest way to get that was via unmenu.  And then I saw md5deep was in unmenu ... and then I saw it was only for 32-bit ... and here we are.  I'm about to try running the build script myself now that gcc is installed but I figured it would be easier / nicer for everyone else if it were just included.

Also for the life of my I can't validate that there is a difference between 32 and 64 md5deep.

Let me know how you get on.  I think you are correct and that md5deep is only supplied in source format.  At least if you get the source from the home site you can then build the latest 4.4 version.

I created myself a Slackware VM some time ago just so I could do things like build packages without having to load anything into core unRAID, so if you get nowhere I can have a go using that VM.  I would expect the 64-bit and 32-bit binaries to be different (although built from identical source) simply because they are calling different versions of system libraries.

I started down the path as I said but i decided to play around a bit by installing it into ArchVM and doing what i was trying to avoid doing; share and mount all my disks (all = three ... but still).  So with that done I started playing with hashdeep and quickly realized what someone else on the forums figured out (after some more specific searching): hashdeep really is not what "we" want if our intent is to quickly and easily:

1) Generate initial checksums (ok it is good at this actually)

Synchronize:

2) Add new file checksum (technically it can but only by regenerating ALL of them again)

3) Remove checksums of deleted files (no file name match)

Verify:

4) Identify missing files (no name match, checksum exists)

5) Identify bad files (file name match, checksum fail, no date change)

6) Identify modified files (name match, checksum fail, date change)

The app that can do all that is really only on windows which means running over the network like I am right now :( or creating a Windows VM / Docker.  Technically he has an alpha version that can run in Linux under KDE, but no command line version ... well I don't think there is one.  I am going to dig into it and see what I can find.

I have a 6.0.b8 server with unmenu installed.  Most of the time the pages on unMenu (other than the main one) don't load at first. Only after refreshing several times the page finally loads.  I have tried two different browsers (Chrome, Firefox).

I run check for unmenu updates in user scripts and get this:

Am I reading this correctly that a few components (myMain_local, unraid-swapfile-unmenu-package and ctlaltdel-unmenu-package) fail to update?

Just started having issues with accessing unmenu with "tower".  Can't use "tower:8080" either.  Have to use ip "192.168.xxx.xxx:8080" to get main page.  Can't navigate from there without changing tower to ip upon failure.

When it fails to access, give a message "the server refused connection"

I'm still using 4.7 with unmenu 1.6.  Accessing with windows 7 computer.

Can't see anything in my syslog to indicate issue, doesn't log anything when connection is refused.

Besides possible syslog any ideas?

Any help would be great.

Thanks, but I did do a shut down with out change.

I also forgot to mention, I have 2 unRaids, tower and tower2.  Both are on 4.7 with unmenu.  This problem is with both.  Only have a couple of packages installed.

mysql on one

email notification on both, still getting daily emails of status.

another package I believe that goes with the notification.

Don't remember any others, can check tonight.

I am receiving these messages with unRAID beta 9.

HI,

I am using the unmenu in Unraid 6 Beta 9 and when trying to setup the SSMTP (so can send alerts from unraid server, and use the email notify I guess) and I noticed the link to the one package it is trying to get is broken.

Addl. Pkg. URL-1: http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slackware/slackware64-14.1/patches/packages/openssl-1.0.1g-x86_64-1_slack14.1.txz

Addl. md5 Checksum: d85f8f451f71dd606f3adb59e582322a (NOT matched - download may be corrupted, or download URL no longer valid.)

I click on the link and try to go there manually and it doesn't exist.

Anyway I can fix that.

Thanks,

Pete

I've had lots of problems with some disks, but I think I've found a way to copy the data off of the affected disk onto another, good disk in my array.

Once this finishes, I'm sure I'm going to have some/many duplicate files on my array.  Someone suggested unMENU has a find duplicates feature.

I just wanted to confirm if this is accurate, and see if this might be the best way to find and fix/eliminate duplicate files from my array.

I don't have unMENU installed right now, so I can't test, and I don't want to add anything else until I get the files copied, and get parity restored.

I'm running beta9 at the moment, so I also want to confirm that unMENU 1.6 will work fine with beta9, as I don't need to cause myself any more unpleasant issues.

thanks in advance.

1.  At this time the best scripts to find the duplicate files are described in this thread:

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=35183.0

You should probably run one, and then the other.  Both may point you to files needing management.

The "find-duplicates" in unMENU will ONLY help if you have duplicate files on multiple disks at the same level in the same directory. (and therefore when browsing user-shares, you only see the file on the lowest numbered disk, the others being hidden)    Its purpose is different than either of the two in the thread listed above.  i.e. if you have /mnt/disk1/Movies/Photo1.jpg  and /mnt/disk2/Movies/Photo1.jpg, only the first file will be visible under /user/Movies/.    It will find those. (it uses the "duplicate file" error messages unRAID puts in your syslog to know which files to look for. )

unMENU is compatible with any version of unRAID, but don't look there for your find-duplicates solution.  As I said, its script serves a different need.

The syslog messages are no longer being generated, I know for sure in 6b6, and others have commented that they have been missing for other versions as well.

Then the "find-duplicates" in unMENU is useless on these later versions.

Use one of the scripts mentioned in the linked thread instead.

Hi guys,

is there a way that I could clone the 'User Scripts' Tab to create a 'My Scripts' tab (or an arbitrary number of them) containing a collection of my personal scripts. I know that I could add these to the existing User Scripts tab but I'd like to reduce gui clutter. What would I need to edit to accomplish this and how?

Any advice appreciated  :)

Absolutely, all the "tabs" are plugins and you can easily clone the User-scripts file (naming it something else) and then editing it to look for whatever file naming pattern you desire for your own scripts.

As an example of how to add a new "tab" to do something not normally supplied, look here:
