SATA card suggestions

Featured Replies

Hello I am currently using this Motherboard BIOSTAR A880G+ AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX

I have 3 drives attached and I am about to purchases a license and expand, but the board only has 4 SATA ports onboard and I need help finding a good card to expand that to 6 or 8 total

I have 1 PCI-E slot and 2 PCI slots for expansion

What do you suggest?

Many people are using the SuperMicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 cards that support an extra 8 HDDs. There is also a newer version which is AOC-SAS2LP-MV8.

The original SASLP card came with firmware .15n however it now ships with firmware .21. The card can also have the firmware upgraded and downgraded between .15n and .21 fairly easily.

A number of people, myself included, have had issues with the .21 firmware and the AMD 880 chipset. In my case this was due to the .21 firmware being much larger in size than the .15n which caused boot-up issues. This was eventually solved in my case by Gigabyte providing a smaller size motherboard bios.

This card may be overkill for you though as sounds like you don't need that many. HDDs.
