Seagate 4TB Black External Hard Drive STBV4000100 $159.99

Preclearing one of these right now. Pretty impressive so far. Going at ~160MB/s 22% in and the temperature has not gone above 30 degrees in my Norco 4224 case.

EDIT: At the zeroing phase of the preclear now. 14% in and it's writing at ~175MB/s. It still hasn't gone above 30 degrees. If these drives hold up in the long term they're going to be a classic. I think I may try to sell some of my older 2TB WD Greens on eBay and pick up a few more of these to replace them. I've got 10 disks, not including parity, in my array and until we get P+Q parity I am a little hesitant to keep adding more with 3 or 4TB on a single disk these days. Two disk failures at the same time at those sizes would mean losing a hell of a lot of data.

Very nice drives -- I'm seriously thinking of building a backup server with 6 of them in a mini-ITX case [Lian-Li PC-Q20B].    20TB of fault-tolerant storage in a really small form factor !!

Lets hear your best guesses.

What will the price on 4tb drives be for Black Friday 2013?

$99 ? ? ?

External, I think that is almost certain given the rate they've been dropping in price over the last couple months. Internal with the full warranty is another story but I'm hoping so. I may start putting some money aside just in case and if they are at $99 for an internal I'll replace all my disks with 4TBs.

I've just put one in as parity, I agree they are great drives.  The only risk is you don't know what you are going to get before you order, either the DX or DM, if you care.  Opening the case is really pretty easy and I think I would probably be able to get it back to get together in case I need to submit a warranty return.  I just maxed out my mobo slots, so I now I need to decide if I am going to expand or replace the 2TB drives.  I didn't think of selling them on ebay, that's a thought.

oooo....  I just check amazon and it looks like they dropped down to $150:

I might need to pick up a spare today...

Maybe they'll hit $89 for Black Friday???
