Samsung HD103UJ temp inaccurate

My drives were all spun down and I just started a parity check. Room temperature is 23.3C (74F). The Samsung HD103UJ is reporting a drive idle temperature of 19C. All other drives in the array (Seagate ST31500341AS) are reporting 24C.

 

I've always been amazed that the Samsung drives ran much cooler (normally 7~10C lower at load) than any other drive I use. With these temperature readings, however, I'm now reluctant to trust the Samsung's reported temps.

    I've always questioned the validity of temperature readings on the samsung drives.

    I thought it was a placement of the sensor, but to report less temperature then ambient makes it questionable.

    Perhaps they have some form of threshold that is subtracted.
