VM and internet

Featured Replies

i cant seem to get my VM in vmware workstation connected to the internet. i can connect to the host just fine but not to both. any ideas on what i overlooked?

Is this hosted on your UnRAID box or on another PC?

... and what settings do you have for the Network Adapter in VMware settings for this VM?

the host is just a windows machine. unraid is the guest. it is set to NAT right now but ive tried other settings. ive done it before with another machine but my brain just doesnt seem to want to cooperate right now. i seem to recall using the virtual network editor to get it working before, but i cant remember the combination of settings i used and fiddling with it hasnt worked.

Bridged networking is the most common, and works perfectly with all of my VM's.

What version of Workstation are you running?

... and on which version of Windows?

vmware worksatation 8 and windows 7. the host machine has a static ip.

vmware worksatation 8 and windows 7

That combination should work with no problem.    Have you set the network adapter to Bridged mode?    And WHAT changes have you made in the virtual network editor?

Note that with Bridged mode you don't even need any of the VMware created virtual networks -- it will connect directly through your existing network, getting an IP from your DHCP server, etc.

... my VMware setup in the VMware Network Editor has VMNet0, set for auto-bridging;  and no other VMware networks.

I then use Bridging mode in all my VM's, and they work fine ==> I have 34 virtual machines with virtually every version of Windows; several Linux distros; and a few misc. OS's ... and all work with no problem with those settings.
