Removed 2 Drives with Data.

Featured Replies

I have had a SATA card fail on me with 2 new drives that I put in. There is not much information on these drives. What I want to do is start the machine up with the two drives missing and rebuild the parity with the remaining drives. I ran a parity check a couple days ago and all the drives are running fine. Once that is done I plan to copy the little bit of information from the two drives using another pc to transfer to the array.

So how do I do this?  I can start the array at the moment because unraid says "Too many wrong and/or missing disks!"

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

If I click on "new config"  under utils will that just look at the data drives I have currently installed and then rebuild parity with the drives currently installed?

Yes, BUT be VERY CAREFUL when you assign the drives, as you have to be sure you use the same parity drive [if you assign what is now a data drive as parity it will be wiped out].

Since you can still get to the Web GUI, make a note of the serial number of your parity drive, so you won't make any mistakes  :)

In fact, when you assign the drives for the new config, I'd assign all the data drives and NO parity drive;  then boot with that config and confirm all is okay [if ANY drive shows as Unformatted, STOP -- do NOT format it;  post back here and get some assistance].    After confirming all is okay;  then stop the array; assign parity; and restart it and let it build the new parity info.

I presume you know that "another pc" won't be able to read these drives unless it can read the Reiser file system.  If you're planning to do this from a Windows PC, you'll need to use a file system driver that can read the data [Not a problem -- but just wanted to confirm you're aware of this and not surprised if you attach the drive to a PC and can't "see" the data].

So I have started the array and I cant access shares or the GUI. I have got a tail of syslog going and it currently says "REISERFS (device md2) : Using r5 hash to sort names"

Is this just unraid sort out the file system or am I in big trouble?
