Webserver confusion

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am a little unsure as to how to setup the webserver function..

Under settings, I have Web Server listed under the Network Services. When I go into it, it says it's enabled but the status says "stopped". Also, there are no settings specified against "Web root directory" and "Listening Port". What would these settings be?

Is this Simplefeatures webserver or standard UnRaid out the box webserver - I am very unsure?!

Any help, much appreciated!

SimpleFeatures Webserver has a support thread on this forum.

Ok - if I knew what I was looking at I may head over there. Am I looking at the SimpleFeatures webserver or is this an in-built server that comes with UnRaid anyway? I am unsure and confused!.....

unRAID does not have a web server. SimpleFeatures has a plugin for a web server that looks like what you described (an icon under the settings page).

The web root directory should be set to a path on your array or cache drive where you plan to put your web page files. Since this can be anywhere on the server, the setting is empty for you to set. What do you need the web server for? Where did you put the files that you want displayed in a web browser? That location is the path you should set.

The port is also up to you. It can be anything except port 80 (port 80 is used by unRAID for its web management pages). Try port 8000. If your path is set to a directory containing web page files (html, php, etc...) & the port is set to 8000, then you can view the web page files by pointing a browser to http://tower:8000/

Now, with all the above explained... it is usually a good idea to familiarize yourself with unRAID before adding all kinds of plugins / addons. If something stops working, the first step to troubleshooting is to go back to the stock unRAID (having no addons). You seem to have skipped this step since you weren't sure where the web server came from (if it was part of unRAID or SimpleFeatures). Do you actually have a use for the web server? If not, remove it... if later you need it then you can add it back.

The first question to answer is what did you install with unraid? No one can truly help you unless you give the details. A syslog would help the assistance also.

OK - I have had established that the 'webserver' comes from SimpleFeatures. I can confirm that SimpleFeatures is working cos the webgui looks very nice.

For the life of me I cannot get the webserver to work. Perhaps the webserver doesn't do what I want it to do which is to host my own website locally for testing purposes?

Syslog attached  :D

Any help greatly appreciated.

syslog.txt

from your syslog

"May 18 22:08:49 UnRAID logger:  file /boot/packages/sqlite-3.7.14.1-i486-1.txz: downloading from http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slackware/slackware-current/slackware/ap/sqlite-3.7.14.1-i486-1.txz ... bad download, deleting"

This is a known problem with the current version of simple features plugin.  Search in the simple features support thread.  There is a fix in there.  You will have to edit the plug to change version of sqlite

Cheers,

Steve

off topic:

i tried to go into the simplefeatures thread but with a 170 pages it becomes ridicilous

"Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress."
