Min H/W requirement for Plex to downscale to iPad

Featured Replies

Hello.  I'm not sure if this has been asked before.  Can anyone share insight on this?

Plex doesn't list much in the way of hardware requirements.  All they list is 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo or greater for 720p transcoding.  That said, any decently powerful current gen Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge CPU is more than enough.

My server has an Ivy Bridge Core i3-3220T and it's powerful enough to do multiple transcodes to simultaneously.

You'd be best to ask/read on the Plex forums for a more definitive answer.

Hello scumball and dirtysanchez,

Thanks.  I've tried airvideo before, but I get skipping.  When I tried Plex on a core2duo processor, it works smoother.  Though this time, I'll be setting up a new machine for a friend.  Was wondering if a lower processor would work.  I guess no one can really say unless they've tried it.  The more core would be the better, I guess.

BetaQuasi, I've gone through almost 20 pages of the plugin, and still haven't seen any answer, that's why I've resulted to asking.

Thanks to all.
