Any difference in using E3-1240 versus E3-1240V2 with X9SCM-iiF Motherboard?

Any difference in using E3-1240 CPU versus the E3-1240V2 CPU with the X9SCM-iiF Motherboard?

Just want to know if there would be any difference at all. I will be using all 3 - 5tb reds and (2) AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 cards.

Thanks

The v2 chips will require firmware version 2.0 or later.

If you're looking at which to buy, go for the v2. It's more energy efficient and also has ~10-15 percent better performance over the non v2.

Fundamentally no.  The 1240 uses 32 nm lithography; the 1230v2 is 22nm ... it's one generation newer.    As already noted, the 1240 has a higher TDP ... 80w vs. 69w for the 1230v2 => but in both cases the CPU will be running at a very low CPU utilization %, and their power draw will be very similar.    The "horsepower"  (i.e. CPU-power) is almost a wash ... the 1240 scores 8260 on PassMark's CPUMark; the 1230v2 scores 8934 ==> I'd consider an 8% difference irrelevant.

Bottom line:  If you're buying one, buy the v2;  if you already have a 1240, it's definitely not worth buying a v2 CPU.
