What applications did you install on unRAID ?

I've installed:

-  unmenu

- simpleFeatures

- SABnzbd

- CouchPotato

Soon: Dropbox and crashplan.

In order of importance.

Plex

Sickbeard & SABnzbd

Virtual Box

Simple Features

pyload

Transmission

OpenVpn

Couchpotato

Plex. It's the reason I found unRaid and started using it in the first place. At this point I can't really see using one without the other.

Sab & Sickbeard. Saves me a lot of time, hard to imagine my downloading workflow without those apps.

Couchpotato. It's hit & miss, I keep it running, but I would have no problem to see it go.

Simplefeatures. Would unRaid be usable without it? Yes. Would it be as pleasant experience? No.

Transmission. I only turn it on ocasionally if I have something huge or slow to download.

Tried many, kept what I use. See sig

SimpleFeatures + Web Server

AirVideo

pyTiVo

SubSonic

Used to have tons of plugins loaded. Then I virtualized unraid and run most of the apps I used are now in an Ubuntu server VM. All I run now are SimpleFeatures (just the web gui replacement), unmenu and the iStat server plugin.

I'm with mrow, since virtualising with vbox all I run on unraid is 3 plugins

SimpleFeatures (core & webserver)

Plex

Vbox lubuntu VM - SAB, Sickbeard,Lazylibrarian,Couchpotato,Headphones

        osx 10.8 VM - Itunes

Win Server 2k8r2 - Visual studio

CrashPlan

BitTorrent Sync

UnMenu

Plex - new, and not fully working yet.  :-)

Try to keep it bare bones, but some things are so tempting!

I try to keep my unRaid as Stock as possible so i only installed:

unmenu

simpleFeatures

DNSMasq (for PXE booting my client to do their backups with Clonezilla)

For all the other stuff like BT Sync, NZB Downloader, pyload etc. i use a modified Pogoplug which is running 24/7. That one is also much more easy to extend softwarewise, because to be honest if there isn't a ready to use package for the software you want to use, extending unraid is a real pain.

Plex Media Server

SB

CP

SabNZBd

SimpleFeatures

Acpups

Runs like a top except for some occasional PMS crashes.

I went with uNmenu, SimpleFeatures and Crashplan.

I wanted to keep things simple for unRaid so I virtualized it and run most of my other applications (Plex, Sab, CP, SB, etc) on my WHS 2011 VM.

Management of the other applications is easier and I think I'm getting more bang for my hardware investment even though running 5 VM's (unRaid, WHS, Server 2012, Ubuntu 12.04 x2 (one server for testing, one for OpenAtrium) )one doesn't even get to 30% of my CPU utilization using ESXi 5.1.

Plex is and running out of space on my 4gb Qnap was the main reasion I move to UnRaid. Atom CPU to weak to transcode to mobile devices. So I built my UnRaid box sith a AMD Tri Core.

Other Plugins.

Simple Features +Web Server, the standard UI looks like something from Windows 3.1 days.

Sabnzbd

CouchPotato

SickBeard

Acpupsd

VirtualBox

System has been rock solid for two years.

Simple Features

Plex

Subsonic

Transmission

APCUPSD

OpenSSH

back to ur 5rc15a since subsonic causes probs with the later versions for me.

What's the main reason for running VBox on an unRAID server?  I know what VBox, Xen, VMWare and others are and I use them personally and as part of my job.  Just wondering how people are using this on an unRAID box.  Does ti run on top of unRAID, or the other way around?  Do the VM's run applications better suited for that environment rather than running applications on top of unRAID directly?

Virtualbox is the solution of choice if you want to run with unraid as the host OS, ESXI is the preferred solution if you want to run unraid as a virtual machine. Either solution can be used to keep the unraid install as clean as possible. Most issues with unraid revolve around the use of third party add on programs, so running unraid clean can enhance reliability. Virtualbox doesn't rely on hardware compatibility for it to run its best, but it can be slower. ESXI won't run well on a system that isn't fully supported, but if you choose the right combination of hardware, the performance is pretty much identical to bare metal for each of the guest machines. Virtualbox is very easy to set up, ESXI requires a little more knowledge and prep.

I was using:

Simplefeatures

Unmenu

Apcupsd

Plex

Transmission

Crashplan

Recently i moved to esxi and am currently busy getting unraid as stock as possible, moving everything to windows server and linux vm's.

And i'm loving the flexibility.

I now run everything i was before + freepbx voip and knx domotics for my home, all on the same system.

All this to thank to unraid and its great community.
