June 8, 201313 yr So they're predicting a price of around $600 bucks. That's the price of the 24 port RocketRAID card, so you're basically getting the motherboard for free (and proves that controller cards are overpriced). Only downside is this uses SATA connectors instead of SAS.
July 6, 201313 yr Dont know if I would buy such a motherboard. I rather spread the risk if a controller breaking down over 3 separate controllers.
July 6, 201313 yr This is also a VERY power-hungry board ... it consumes ~ 70 watts on idle !! A more efficient board with a good PCIe x16 24-port controller would be more efficient, and a lot more flexible in it's configuration possibilities.
July 8, 201313 yr A more efficient board with a good PCIe x16 24-port controller would be more efficient... I agree. Plus, redundancy would make things more redundant, which is always more durable on dedicated systems.
