SS-500 screws

Featured Replies

I've heard the SS-500 (V2) either doesn't come with all the screws, or are missing some.

Does the chassis itself use the M3 screws typically on 5.25" optical drives, and 2.5" drives?  Or does it use 6/32 screws?

Either way, I also heard the typical sized screws are too long to mount the SS-500 chassis into the drive bays.  Anyone know how short the screws need to be so I don't end up using washers?

I have an Elysium Xigmatek case for reference.

I would image it uses the same screws Norco uses on the trays in their server cases. Those screws are 6/32 screws.

Can anyone with an SS-500 confirm?

In a review on Newegg this guy is complaining about there not being enough hard drive screws and confirms the size.

Which makes it nothing but an expensive paperweight since the screws (6-32 flatheads with about 3/16 threaded) aren't available even at the exceptionally well-stocked local hardware store (an entire aisle devoted to fasteners).

Here is a quote from a thread from a year ago with someone asking the same question and link to a store with a 100 pack of the screws.

Here are the official screws, note that it is the same picture as the ebay listing:

Sorry, I don't mean the screws that hold the 3.5" drives into the trays, I mean the screws holding the SS-500 into the 3 5.25" bay slots.  Are you saying Norco uses 6/32 screws to hold the SS-500 itself in the case as well?

Previous SS-500 owner here. Yes, the screws are used for both mounting the drives as well as mounting the unit itself.

Are you saying the same sized (thread size) screws used to secure the hard drives are also the correct size to mount the rack to the case? That's odd since every 5.25 " and 2.5" drive I've dealt with uses to smaller M3 screws whereas every 3.5" HDD I own uses the larger 6/32 screws....

All I can say is that the same screw worked great for both mounting the drives and mounting the unit itself.
