What can I safely delete from the flash drive on my 4.7 install?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about upgrading to the latest 5.0 release, but I'm wondering what's safe to delete from my current flash drive. I'm completely fine with re-configuring everything in unRAID, so I'd even be willing to wipe everything, and then manually re-assign disk positions, shares, and users (all that data is saved in Evernote).

I've attached a screenshot of the new install flash drive on the left, and my actual 4.7 flash drive on the right.

It looks like I should be safe to delete:

/config/netatalk/ <- no longer using

/config/passwd <- required to delete for 5.0 upgrade

/config/smbpasswd <- required to delete for 5.0 upgrade

/packages/ <- I no longer use any packages

/smartctl

Does that look about right? Would it be a good idea to wipe the flash drive and re-configure everything under 5.0 manually? I only have 3 users and 5 shares... so it's not much work.

If you don't mind doing the reconfiguration, I'd do exactly that -- start with a reformatted "stock" v5 flash drive and re-create your users.  [The shares should automatically be shown, since these are based on top-level folders ... although you'll need to set any includes/excludes and split levels]

Be sure you keep you key file !!

Thanks for the reply. I'll re-configure everything manually as you suggested. It has been 6 or so years... so it can't hurt to start fresh :)
