HELP: hard disk throwing up errors on boot

Featured Replies

Hello!

This is my first attempt at building an unraid server, so apologies for the dumb questions. I have followed the wiki and seemed to have everything up and running (parity sync done and drives formatted). After rebooting the server there was a red blob next to one of the hard drives. I used initconfig to reset the array and rebooted again - this time I noticed "Buffer I/O error on device sde" flashing up as unraid booted. I looked in the syslog and there are a number of other errors all related to this drive. I have tried switching mobo SATA ports, SATA cable and power cable but that did not resolve the problem...

I performed a 3 cycle preclear on the disk when I added it and they came back fine. I have tried preclearing again and it is going incredibly slow (2.1MB/s on the pre-read).

I have attached the syslog and the original preclear report.

I'd really appreciate some expert advice on this!

The server specs:

Mobo: Asus P6T-SE

CPU: i7 920

RAM: 3GB DDR3 1333

PSU: Corsair CX430

HDD1: 3TB Seagate barracuda ST3000DM001

HDD2: 2TB Samsung Spinpoint F4 HD204UI

HDD3: 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ (the problem disk...)

HDD4: 500GB Seagate barracuda ST3500418AS

Thanks,

Rob
