Windows 7 Permissions Issue

Featured Replies

I have a new Windows 7 Pro SP1 installation on a wifi laptop that I can't for the life of me connect to my unRaid server.  I've never had issues before with multiple new Win7 builds, and I've tried everything I've done in the past, but I can not get this laptop past "access denied" errors on the shared folder.  Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions?

Thanks!

You haven't given us much to go on, not even a mention of what you have already tried.

unRAID version?

Are the new PC and unRAID in the same workgroup?

Are you trying to access a public, secure, or private share?

Pingable? WebGUI accessible?

IP addresses of both?

Rest of network reachable from new machine? Rest of network can reach unRAID?

etc.

I run Windows 7 Pro machines with a separate Linux box acting as a domain controller.  When I install Windows 7 I need to make two registry changes to get the machines to join the domain, until I do this I get similar symptoms to what you describe.  The registry changes are described here:

you probably just want the first two:

HKLM\System\CCS\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
            DWORD  DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
            DWORD  DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0

Stephen
