capture syslog when server is unresponsive

I am trying to diagnose a problem with my server 'freezing'.  This problem seems to happen randomly.  I am not able to telnet to the server and the management page is unresponsive.  How am I able to capture the syslog?

Edit: I was able to take a screen cap from ipmi session.

just started a memtest and it's failing all over the place

There was a script that would output your syslog to your flash drive in real time but Tom banned the user that wrote it and deleted all his posts so I can't link you to it. Maybe someone on here has a copy they can post.

Attached is the script mrow was referring to.

I haven't used it but thought it was a good idea so downloaded it before he got banned in case I ever needed it.

keeplogs.zip

There was another post somewhere... I can't seem to find it now, that also did a similar thing to re-direct... a copy of the syslog.  so if the one in the ZIP does not do quite what you want, you may want to search a little.

Of course, you may not need it since you found you are having memory errors.  Also, you may need to use caution in where you send the log to, you do not want to write all the time to your flash drive used to boot unRAID, it will shorten the live of the flash memory.

I found the keeplogs script to be helpful for troubleshooting. I'd like to pass along the advice given to me for its use, that since it's writing to the USB key you may shorten its life running the script for long periods. It may be better in this case to direct its output to the cache drive. It's a very handy tool!
