Has anyone ever tried to send a file directly to your unraid server as its being created?

Let me put it another way,  If i set the output folder in dvd shrink to be my video share folder on my unraid server, will it work?  Will it screw up the file?  Its all 1000mbps from my desktop to the server so...

what do you think?

thanks

I've almost always done it that way... It will work just fine.    I usually specify the disk share directly

(" \\tower\disk11\Movies" ), rather than the "user" share, that way I know for sure there is space, and I know where it is being created.  I even do it from my laptop wireless link (just takes a bit longer depending on activity on the network).

i do this with most of my files. i send my torrents to (\\tower\user\tv shows) and i also send my handbrake rips to (\\tower\user\movies\(movie folder)) i have never had a problem. i can even stream from my unraid to my mac mini and watch movies or tv shows without a stuttering or problems. i just mount the user folders as drives on my mac pro and mac mini and use them as i would a normal hard drive.

hope that helps you

I recommend sending it to your cache drive, and prevent drive fragmentation.

I dont have a cache drive.  Ive been just ripping to a folder on my pc and then copying them to my unraid server at night.

I need the space and dont want to use one of my hd spots for a cache drive.

Thanks guys.

I probably should have asked this a long time ago.  It sure would have made life easier.
