This will be a WIP/Log of the C.O.R.P.S.  system that I am building. My plans are to have the C.O.R.P.S. system consist of:

 

1U - 24 Port Gigabit Switch

1U - Patch Panel

2U - (I Eye) Clear OS router with dual wan

Tally so far 946.95

 

I have  added some movable wheels to the bottom legs that lock into place. This was almost  necessary due to the shear weight of this thing, AND ITS MOSTLY EMPTY!

Very nice. Looks like you are off to a good start. Which piece will be next? If you think it is heavy now, wait until you add in the UPS.

 

More importantly how will he/she move it, wouldn't want that thing sitting in my living room lol.

Next will be the mods to bring the noise of the server down to normal levels AND at the same time taking my current server (see sig) and putting it into the CORPS system (2U Case).

 

Main question i have is which should be my VM/Game server and which should be unraid.

 

So its:

MOBO H8DME-2

2x 1.8 GHZ 6 Core proc (12 cores total)

8GB RAM

 

Vs

 

MOBO ASUS F1A75-M LE

a single 2.7 ghz quad core

16GB RAM

 

(or a combination of them, Thinking of putting the 8 GB in the second setup and make that my unraid setup (swaping all the part sinto the supermicro case) and the 16gb in the first setup for VM/Game server)

 

also added wheels to the CORPS system for moving it =)

This is no joke. With 24 hard drives in the unRAID server, another server, a rackmount UPS, and the weight of the case, this will weigh a LOT. Why one large case instead of several smaller ones? I would think when going mobile, that would help make it easier to move the whole system.

 

EDIT: Nevermind. The cost on these kind of cases is very prohibitive. Could you provide a link of where you are sourcing yours?

 

I like the idea of a modular setup like this, because it's a completely self contained enterprise quality infrastructure in a half height rack. I will watch this DIY with interest.

Interesting, because my "quick" Google search came back that 413-665-2163 is the TELEPHONE number for Hardigg. That's why I asked the question. My guess is that is in fact NOT the part number for the actual item, and that the eBay listed it incorrectly.  I appreciate your attempt to answer for him, but you of all people should know I do plenty of my own research before I start asking questions. If that is where the OP found the item, the so be it. But I would rather have him tell me, just the same.

Sorry for the late response, been moving. That link is the exact link where i bought mine (same guy he ships direct to your door via UPS ground). The guy had two of them and looks like he still has one =).

 

The reason i went with one instead of abunch of smaller ones is like you said cost, as a solution to the weight i have added caster wheels to the bottom of the legs of the case that lock into place. Moving it around is easy now =).

It certainly looks good ... definitely an "industrial" look to it.

 

If you think it's heavy now, wait until you add all the drives !!  (and, of course, a good UPS)

 

Figure ~ 1.5# x 24 drives = 36 pounds, plus 25-30 pounds for a UPS ... that's an additional 60+ pounds !!

 

Not sure how "portable" this "Rack Portable Storage" is going to be ... but it's definitely going to be a nice system !!

Only appears to show 8 of the 12 cores.... I suspect this is due to the 32 bit kernel. Anyone know a work around?

I believe unRAID has an 8 core cap.  If you compile your own kernel you could enable all cores.
