General Place to store data?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I currently have two shares.

Movies (Split at Level 1)

TV (Split at Level 2)

Can someone please tell me how I would go about creating a general share that could hold any data, like a temp or dump directory? I have to migrate some data from a PC to another one. ANy would like a place to store random things...

Do I enter a split level What happens if I don't put a split level in? What disk will the share be on?

Any advice gratefully accepted...

Thanks

Just create a share with whatever name you want -- e.g. "Temp4Move",  "MiscData", etc.

No need for a split level or allocation restrictions.  UnRAID will store the data on whichever drives it selects based on your current allocation settings ... but it will work like one big folder from your external interface, so it doesn't matter where they are physically stored.

I also depends what you gonna store. Single file movies, like mkv's or Multi file movies like dvd and bluray rips. I set the split levels so that all files of a dvd or bluray rip stay grouped together on one disk.

The shares probably get created on all disks in the array, if you don't include or exclude disks for a share.

Or copy them to disc shares so they don't get split all over the place. \\192.168.1.127\disc1\dump
