July 12, 201312 yr Hi, i'm new on Unraid, but when i try to copy some files from windows 7 or 8 to an unraid 5RC16c, i obtain a crash with someting like that in syslog : Jul 12 12:33:27 Tower kernel: samba[1880]: segfault at 1320b1 ip 400468b6 sp bff39d90 error 4 in libc-2.11.1.so[4002e000+15c000] Jul 12 12:35:26 Tower kernel: samba[1884]: segfault at 12ed88 ip 4004685f sp bfe4cf1c error 4 in libc-2.11.1.so[4002e000+15c000] Jul 12 12:35:34 Tower kernel: smartctl[1885]: segfault at addb8 ip 401ccb01 sp bfcdbb80 error 4 in libc-2.11.1.so[40159000+15c000] Jul 12 12:35:34 Tower kernel: emhttp[1020]: segfault at 6e368 ip 402982a8 sp bfc158c0 error 4 in libc-2.11.1.so[401ba000+15c000] Jul 12 12:35:34 Tower kernel: smartctl[1887]: segfault at 11690 ip 00011690 sp bfa7dffc error 14 in smartctl[8048000+51000] there is no pluging (i suppressed Simplefeatures) in this case, FTP copy is always available, but WEBGUI, and samba are KO, i'm obliged to shutdown with a reset of my XPC config : Shuttle XPC SD39, 3HDD = 1to, 1to, 500Go

It could be almost anything from incorrectly configured/bad memory, to any process using all your memory, to a poor power supply. If using FTP you might be filling the in-memory file system by writing to the wrong place, that would cause the kernel to kill process that are idle the longest (samba and emhttp are usually the first to be killed) Joe L.
July 12, 201312 yr Author Hi, the attachment is my last syslog from reboot to a new crash, without specific action... i have 8Go of RAM on my PC, and i thing that the power supply is very large thank's for your answer syslog.txt
July 12, 201312 yr Author One important information : the bug appears only with a parity disk. when i used an array without parity disk, i can copy from Windows to a Unraid Share.
July 13, 201312 yr Author SOLVED SOLVED !!! the v5RC16c (and maybe the others versions) does not support more than 4 Go of RAM. everything work well with 4Go Thank's Fabrice
July 13, 201312 yr SOLVED SOLVED !!! the v5RC16c (and maybe the others versions) does not support more than 4 Go of RAM. everything work well with 4Go Thank's Fabrice Yes, they all do, going back to the mid 4.X series. odds are VERY high you have a bad or mis-configured stick of memory in your server. It is strongly suggested that you confirm the voltage, clock speed, and timing are set to the manufacturers recommendations for your specific ram strips in your BIOS. Also you should run a memory check, for at least several cycles, preferable overnight. Unless you are running memory intensive add-ons, there is no need for much memory. I run my older unRAID server with 512 Meg of RAM, and unless I am trying to compile a huge program, it is plenty enough to serve movies. Joe L.
