July 24, 201312 yr Hi All, For a while now I've been wanting to have quick terminal access for issuing the occasional command but without the need for a client app such as putty. I briefly experimented with shellinabox but then found Gate One, which seems to be pretty flexible and allows different type of connections (SSH, Telnet etc). I've put a framework plugin together and wondered if anyone wants to test it? I really don't know if it's worth putting more time in or if there are other/better solutions out there. If you want to install it, grab a copy from my Github (see sig), and install in the usual way (installplg /path/to/plugin.plg) or reboot with the .plg file in /boot/config/plugins directory. The webgui page is a bit basic at the moment and only allows for the port to be changed. Gate One supports connection via SSH or Telnet, but you'll need SSH installed before you can connect this way. I've not included this in the plugin. I've tested with my OpenSSH plugin and it seems to work okay. To test, install the plugin and then visit your hostname:port. eg. tower:8888. You should be presented with a screen asking for connection details. If you want to test with telnet then you need to enter "telnet://localhost" as otherwise it'll default to trying to connect using SSH. It's supposed to allow for sessions to detach and reattach. I've not really tested this much but when I tried to re-open a new browser window, I got a blank screen so I'm thinking something's not quite right. Please feel free to try and report back. Kind Regards, overbyrn.
July 24, 201312 yr Nice. I looked around for something similar a while back, found Gate One but didn't pursue it. It's nice to have the plugin!! I've had a bit of a try of it - seems to work ok so far. And I have had session detatch/reattach work. I do get a problem if I try to add a new terminal to the currently open one - the open one slides off the screen and I'm left with a black screen. Can only fix it by doing Ctrl+Alt+W to close the terminals and get back to the start, but then I lose what I was doing in the original terminal. Don't think that's anything to do with the plugin though - most likely a Gate One and IE10 compatibility issue. Peter
July 24, 201312 yr I wanted to write a shellinabox plugin - but you beat me to it with Gate One plugin. I will try it, Thank you.
July 24, 201312 yr I have a shellinabox plugin done... just can never remember to put it up. Will have to take a look at this Gate One though.

For now I'm just inclined to have folks kick it around to help judge if it's worth progressing. Good to hear you got detach working. I had to compile that app from source and although it built and the binary ran, I was skeptical in case it needed other dependencies. Gate One seems a bit bloaty.

Look for a thread in a little bit. I also grabed your patched shellinabox file so that it will work in firefox (hope that is OK).
