July 24, 201312 yr Hi all, I recently built a brand new unRaid server running v5.0-rc16c. Over the past few days I created an array and started creating user shares and copying all my files over. Yesterday I stopped the array and brought my parity drive online then re-started the array. The parity drive completed building in a few hours and just before I went to bed I started a parity check so it could run over night. This morning when I attempted to connect to my server via its webUI it would not respond. I'm able to ping my server and I can even telnet to it. I waited several hours thinking perhaps the parity check was still running in the background and somehow causing the webUI not to be responsive. I'm beginning to think that now the webUI is crashed. What would you guys recommend I do? I thought about powering the server off & on but I would rather not do a hard boot. Is there a way to gracefully reboot the server from telnet? What commands do I need to enter to stop the array and reboot gracefully? Thx in advance for your help.
July 24, 201312 yr There is a procedure at this link to manually shutdown from telnet. If you can telnet, you can shut it down gracefully. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Console
July 25, 201312 yr Author Thanks, that helped. Found out that emhttp was hung on my server... after reading some other posts it seems that dir cache could be the culprit. I disabled dir cache and will see if it remains stable over the next few days.
July 25, 201312 yr I have also recently built a new server using v5.0-rc16c and have experienced the WebGUI becoming unresponsive. For me, the WebGUI seems to get "stuck" most often (but not always) when navigating to the "Main" page for the first time (from the beta announcement) or when I refreshed the "Main" page (as happens when you go through the steps to add drives to the array). The spinning arrow ICON gets going and the WebGUI seems hung. When this happens to me, I find that if I navigate to either the "Settings" or "Utils" page, the WebGUI responds quickly. Then I can navigate back to the "Main" page and the interface responds immediately. Using this approach, I have been able to avoid having to reboot the system to get the WebGUI responsive again. If you experience this issue again, try this to see if it helps with your setup. I've also noticed the WebGUI hang when refreshing the "Main" page during "FORMAT" (when adding a new precleared disk to the array) and this workaround helped then also. I'm running stock unRAID. I also have another server running stock v5.0-rc12a and I have not seen the WebGUI hang on this version. Hope this helps.
July 25, 201312 yr Author Are you by chance running Simple Features and how much ram are you using? Yes, I am running Simple Features with 4GB RAM.

I was able to stop emhttp from telnet and when I attempted to start it again I would get an error message. I had no other choice but to stop the array, unmount the disks and reboot from my telnet session.
July 25, 201312 yr Are you by chance running Simple Features and how much ram are you using? Yes, I am running Simple Features with 4GB RAM. Ok, I run simple features and cache_dirs and had 16gb ram and it would cause issues, I dropped to 8gb ram and it hasn't locked up yet, put it back to 16gb and it locks up, even changed out the memory with different kinds and anything over 8gb it locks up, so I've dropped it back to 8gb and have left it there...was just wondering if you have more than 8gb to give that a try. The only page not responding for me was the main page, then after a while all pages stopped. I think you might be on the right track with cache_dirs causing your issue. If you've disabled it and it's not locking up then I'd say it's a good bet you've found the issue. If not then post back.
