August 3, 201312 yr I just had two of these die during a power off to (ironically) replace the dead drives. I picked up some toshiba 3tbs to replace my aging (3 years) samsung 1.5tb drives. Due to my antec 1080 case, I couldn't easily remove add new drives while powered on. So I shut it down, added the 3 new drives in, fired it up. 2 out of the 3 samsung drives scheduled to be replaced wouldn't spin up again. Not in any system I put them. So, lost 2.4tb of data. I'm rebuilding the array, and as soon as I'm able, will yank the last 1.5tb out of it, ensuring the data gets moved to another drive and try a circuit board swap to try to recover the data (i'm not very hopeful to be honest, but still gotta try). Anyway, word of warning, seems these samsungs (2 out of the 3 I own) die pretty quickly after 3 years... I know, Correlation and Causation ... just wanted to warn others. I think in the future I'm gonna stop doing batches of the same drive, and mix up makes and dates.
