Disk red-balled. Temperature problem?

Last Tuesday I noticed a high pitched beeping noise from my server. On one of the CSE-M35T cages a red light was lit, meaning there was trouble. It was the over temperature LED on the cage. I went into unraids WEBGUI and saw a disk had red-balled. Was this coincidence or was the red ball caused by this over-temperature? The disk was in that cage that gave the signal.

 

I replaced the disk and it rebuild without a problem.

 

The faulty disk was a Hitachi 3 TB 7200rpm, the SMART report indicated no further errors but a max. temperature of 51 centigrade. is this harmfull?
