August 7, 201312 yr I put 10 drives from my old unraid server into my new norco unraid case and unraid doesnt seem to see them. I get options from the drop down of sde, sdf .... but no serial numbers or anything. My controller sees the drives when I have oprom enabled and the controller shows the ports as amber so it detects them. Do I need to format these drives in windows first before unraid will see them?
August 7, 201312 yr UnRAID will format the disks if it does not like the current formatting. Attach a syslog.

August 7, 201312 yr Author Both current from what I can tell. This is done thru ESXI 5.1 and I followed the instructions in the ATLAS build. I had 3 4tb drives working fine, then when i added the 15 1tb drives everything hit the fan and got corrupted some how.
August 7, 201312 yr This is done thru ESXI 5.1Boot with your unraid USB instead of ESXI and see if the symptoms are the same.
August 7, 201312 yr Are the controllers all being passed through to the VM? ... as jonathanm suggested, you should boot directly to your UnRAID flash drive and see if that changes things => that will let you know whether you have an ESXi configuration issue or an actual UnRAID issue.
August 7, 201312 yr Author Dont know if this makes any sense but when there are 3 of the mv8 cards plugged in only 2 of them will work and it appears to be random. Swapping PCIE ports doesnt seem to make a diffrence. Either the top or bottom one will fall off after a reboot, the middle card (2nd) card always seems to stay from my testing. Yet if I just have two cards in place doesnt seem to be an issue. Unraid still doesnt see all the drives though. Very odd since it was running fine with 3 4tb drives in it until last night .... Now It doesnt even see the 3 4tb drives. If I go back to just 3 drives, unraid will see the 3x 4tb, as soon as i add a 1tb samsung hd103si, unraid doesnt show 1 4tb drive or the 1tb drive. Pulled all the 4tbs and put 1tbs in and it doesn't recognize them in unraid the controller sees them fine lol.. syslog.zip
August 8, 201312 yr Author it works fine in bare metal or VM with the 4tb drives. the problem is the mixing of the 1tb drives which is odd. i ordered a v2 of the card to see if that helps, that will get me 16 of the 24 drives
August 8, 201312 yr Does it work on bare-metal in the 1TB drive configuration? You may be replacing the wrong part.
August 9, 201312 yr Author No it doesnt work in bare metal. thats where all my testing a few post above was done. friend has a similiar setup except only 1 of the cards for now since he doesnt have all the extra drives like I do. he can mix 3tb/4tb but he did say today while he was preclearing the 3tbs that unraid wasnt happy and failed I think and it lost a 4tb drive after a few reboots the 4tb drive came back though. so my guyess is there is a conflict with the MB/Controller most likely
