August 10, 201312 yr Hi, Does anyone use an AMD sempron in combination with unbuffered ECC memory (or other AMD consumer cpu). ? I know the sempron 140 does, but I'm interested if sempron 145 or sempron 190 also woek with ecc memory. It's hard to find something about those cpu 's and the might be interesting to use for a very low cost build.
August 10, 201312 yr I'm having a hard time finding information as well. I have a hunch it should work fine. I just upgraded to a faster CPU (FX-4100) and I have a lightly used 145 now to sell in case you're interested. Only used it for a few months. PM me if interested.
August 10, 201312 yr According to this: http://www.amd.com/US/PRODUCTS/EMBEDDED/PROCESSORS/Pages/socket-am3.aspx ...any AM2/AM3 should do fine. All AM3+ are confirmed to support ECC..so this is FX and Opteron 33xx models. Use an indirect method: ASUS does declare ECC compatibility for most of their AM3/AM3+ mobos...so, if you find a mobo that does list ECC in the specs, any CPU in the compatibility list should work with ECC, since the memory controller is entirely inside the CPU.
August 10, 201312 yr I'll be able to comment next week on whether the new Gigabyte Rev3 990FX boards support ECC in UEFI, if you're interested.

Even if I am interested in buying your sempron 145 ,since I live in Europe, I guess shipping it would be very expensive.
August 13, 201312 yr Nope, I don't have ECC RAM, so I have not tested. Yeah, shipping would probably be pricey. No worries. I will probably hang on to it anyway and create a micro linux system to tinker with.
