August 12, 201312 yr I am going to swap out an older motherboard with a newer one. All of my drives are SATA, no IDE. My current motherboard in the unraid server doesn't seem to have any option in the bios for SATA AHCI mode... only option I see under SATA is to choose "ehnahced" mode, etc. (currently set to enhanced). I am wondering when I swap in the new board, is it ok to set it to use AHCI for the SATA drives so I can improve performance? I know with Windows if you had installed the OS with the SATA mode set to IDE and later tried to switch it to AHCI mode in the bios, windows would not boot and blue screen. I assume this does not apply to unraid but I just want to make sure I can set the new board to AHCI mode from the get-go and everything will be ok? Can someone please confirm? Thanks!!!
August 12, 201312 yr I did this exact thing not that long ago. Be default, my motherboard came with IDE enabled. I switched it over to AHCI, and unRAID loaded without a hitch. Write speeds to the cache drive went up as well.
