August 12, 201312 yr ok everytime I shut down and restart my plex server it makes me do the 'getting started' walkthrough again and doesn't remember any of my settings including the libraries etc that I have set up, is there something obvious im missing here with me being a plex noob and all, regards
August 12, 201312 yr How is your Plex set up. What version of PMS, UnRaid etc. Do you have the Plex application directories on a cache drive with the Mover disabled or ignoring those directories etc? I'm not a Plex expert but we probably need a bit more information. TheWombat
August 13, 201312 yr I'd say you have your plex data dir set to a spot in your root file system (a RAM disk in unraid). As posted above, set it to an app drive or your cache drive with the mover disabled on that folder (cache only) and it will be retained through a reboot.
August 13, 201312 yr Author sorry to sound like an idiot (this is my first time using plex and unraid) but how would I go about checking/changing this
August 13, 201312 yr In the unraid web gui click the settings tab and then click the Plex icon. Where does it say the data directory is stored? By default I believe it's stored in "/tmp/" which is located and RAM and lost on reboot. You need to store it on a cache only share on the cache drive or on an array disk if you don't have a cache drive. I would seriously recommend a cache drive if you don't have one because Plex will keep that disk spun up 24/7.
August 14, 201312 yr Also take a look at my post here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=28868.msg257452#msg257452 Gives a run through on how I have Plex installed and setup. If you don't have a cache hard disk drive then you'll need to install one - it can just be any HDD - mine is 500MB but it can be smaller if you are just using it for Plex.

Thanks for that, very helpful link had a read through and first thing I noticed is that I don't have the 'mover settings' in the share settings tab and would also like to know how to go about adding a cache drive as this sounds like the best way to go

Your planned use of the cache disk will determine what size hdd to go for. Setting one up is as simple as stopping the array, powering down, inserting a new hdd, rebooting, stopping the array if required, then selecting the new hdd as being the cache disk via the Web UI, then restarting the array. While I may be wrong, I believe the mover setting will only show for shares if you have a cache drive installed. You may wish to preclear the cache drive first to reduce the chance of an unexpected failure. If you are using the cache drive just for Plex then you are unlikely to need more than a 20GB HDD, hence many people just use whatever old hdd they have spare. If you are looking to use the cache drive for other purposes and/or also to speed up transferring files to the array then you will probably want a larger cache hdd. I use a WD Black 500GB just because it was spare drive I had. hth TheWombat
August 18, 201312 yr If your not going to use a cache drive, I would just mount your spare drive with SNAP or DriveMount as an App drive. That way the slot is available for a future cache drive. This also allows you to have the extra drive in a free license.
