Midnight Commander over VPN

Featured Replies

Does midnight commander copy files slower when run over vpn than at the actual unraid server?

It's always been the same for me.  The interface updates more slowly, but not the actual file copy.

For some reason mines is copying at 208.14 kb/s .. the array is stopped and the mc process using ~90% cpu on a Core i7 proccessor...

any ideas?

A few ideas come to mind...do you have any other processes running that could account for the CPU usage?  Can you run a quick "top" and post the output?

Since the array is stopped, do you have the drives manually mounted for the file copy?  Are they normally part of the array?

Also, run a smart report and short smart test on the drives in question.  I have had several drives that refuse to fail, but also refuse to show normal read/write speeds.  Post the smart reports, if you wouldn't mind.

I assume you're copying between two separate drives, is it just these two that have the problem or can you replicate across all the drives?

That is the only processes that is running that high...

I dont know what a "top" is .. not a Linux guy...

one drive is normally in the array.. the other is my cache drive... Im replacing an old cache drive...

havent tried to replicate it across other drives...

Ok, are you VPNing in from a PC or Mac?  What version are you running?

Telnet/ssh/whatever into your box and just run the command

top

You'll have to ctrl-c to get out of that top command, btw.

Take a screenshot (cmd-shift-3 will save to desktop on mac, ctrl-alt-prtscn then paste into paint on windows) and attach to this thread.

If you are copying from the cache drive to an array drive, that will be a problem for you later, as I believe that will invalidate your parity calc.

If it has invalidated parity, you'll have to recompute that with an initial configuration, either by command line or in the management utility.

But that's all for later.  As far as why the copy is slow, how much data are you trying to copy?  Are you copying TO the new cache drive, or OFF the old?  Can you run the smart reports?
