August 22, 201312 yr Hi guys, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on something. My father is retired and has started hand-making furniture out of wood. God forbid he should do something like rest. Anyway he's interested in selling it online and wants to set up a store. Since he'd be doing most of it himself I'd like to use something pretty novice-friendly. I saw http://www.1and1.com/windows-hosting recently and thought that might do the trick. that way I can keep an eye on him, but leave him to his own devices. Have any of you had something similar? Thanks for reading.
August 22, 201312 yr There are a handful of these types of "make your own commerce site" companies out there, I don't know enough to make recommendations. There is the option of using Amazon though to manage fulfillment, and it is something to be considered. (Amazon brings credibility, multiple payment options, ratings system that everyone uses when they purchase something online or offline, etc....) What type of furniture?
August 22, 201312 yr Author Amazon might be worth a look actually, as you say it brings credibility etc. I'll see what he thinks. It's quite raw looking wooden furniture. good for a garden/patio, that kind of thing. Mostly just chairs at the moment, but he's branching out. The man just doesn't know how to sit down.
August 22, 201312 yr Etsy.com? Create.net? Also I have used Magento Go and full blown Magento Community. You cannot use cheap hosting for Magento community, you will need a VPS. Plenty of options, I would start with a hosted solution like one of the above and also sell on Amazon. Everything you sell on Amazon put in a flyer with your own site.
