August 23, 201312 yr I'm using an ASRock H77M-ITX motherboard to build a small unRAID server. I'll have a cache drive, parity drive, and two data drives. The mobo has two sata2 ports and two sata3 ports. Is there a recommendation on which drives to connect to which ports?
August 23, 201312 yr ...as long as there are no high-performance SSDs among your drive set, it does not matter.
August 23, 201312 yr Author One of the drives is a 120GB Samsung 840 SSD. I didn't have room for it in any of my other computers so I was planning to use that for the cache drive. I'm guessing that should use one of the sata3 ports?
August 23, 201312 yr ...as spinning disk would not benefit from that, at least this would not harm ... this SSD is not *that* fast, in real world scenarios it would *maybe* max-out a SATA-II connection, so connecting it to a SATA-III port is the safer bet.
