WD RED 3TB issue

Featured Replies

I'm a new user of unraid (5.0-rc16c)

I have 2 hdd:

2TB - WDC_WD20EARS-00MVWB0_WD-WCAZA4294049

3TB - WDC_WD30EFRX-68AX9N0_WD-WMC1T0097003

I started with the 2TB drive only and everything worked like a charm. Then I decided to add 3TB and the problem started.

I installed the 3TB drive I used previously for couple of months in my windows 7 computer (it worked there without any issues) and installed it into unraid. After initial format everything seemed fine. However when I started copying data from 2TB to 3TB after copying around 1,5 TB I noticed that the rate went down from 40MB/s too 1MB/s. The same when I tried to copy data in the network. The data transfer is very low. UnRaid web interface becomes very unresponsive (I'm getting a lot of time-outs)

when I restart unRaid it works fine for couple of minutes (sometimes couple of seconds) and then the same  behaviour.

I tried to remove the partition,  create manually partitions using gdisk but nothing seems to help.

I don't think this is a hardware issue. Both drives and the motherboard I used previously with windows 7 for couple of months without any trouble. I tired to connect the drives and unRaid to a different motherboard and I got exactly the same behaviour.

Anybody had similar issue?

Are you seeing any errors in the webgui or in the syslog? Can you tell us more about your system? What do the smart reports look like?

  • Author

I don't see any errors (or I cannot recognize them)

I attached the syslog.

So you only have 2 disks and I am assuming no parity drive?

  • Author

Yes, 2 drives without parity

I would run smart reports on your drives to see if anything comes up.
