December 13, 200817 yr How much disk space does the parity use up? If I have 16 1TB drives, will 1 TB of Parity drive be enough, or will I have to create a raid 0/5 for the parity drive?
December 13, 200817 yr May I suggest a little reading? The Best of the Forums wiki page has some links to info about unRAID parity, and also the first and third section of the FAQ.

As long as the parity drive is as big, or bigger than any of the data drives, it is big enough. It does not store data, it stores a calculation based on the corresponding bit positions on all the other drives. You do NOT want to set it up as RAID anything... As RobJ said, do the reading in the FAQ. Joe L.
