August 30, 201312 yr Hello all... Recently i moved unraid into a ESXi system... and at the same time i also added a cache drive to the system... everything seemed to run correctly till the next morning when CP failed on a large number of D/L... and the one file that it D/L correctly it took 1.5 hours to unpackage... I admit that i didnt come here and try asking about it... but... the question is... is this a known issue with Unraid or ESXi? Also... im running a hot swip chassis... will unraid require a reboot to reconize an addidional HD... or? Thanks... mat
August 30, 201312 yr Can't answer your questions but I have a suggestion if nobody can help otherwise: Since you are using ESXi how about using unRAID without any plugins and use another VM for the plugins you would normally install on unRAID. This will keep the unRAID VM more stable and like the appliance it is best at. I only have VMWare tools installed, unMenu, powerdown and overheat plugins installed. I could see email notification plugin in addition but not much else. Certainly not CP, Sickbeard, etc... Those would work from another VM just as well and would keep your unRAID VM stable if not installed on the unRAID VM.
August 30, 201312 yr Sabnzbd and Sickbeard working perfectly here. Not using ESXi though. Hotswaps work fine (assuming your on 5.0) but you can't swap them with the array running or you'll have some problems. You need to stop the array and then swap them, then start the array back up.
September 11, 201312 yr Author that was really strange... unraid didnt like having the cache drive in there... after i removed it the server started working properly... strange...
September 11, 201312 yr Although you have a hot swap setup, it can nevertheless be more reliable to shut down when switching drives. Did you try that with the cache ?
September 12, 201312 yr Author yes... that's what i did... shut down... added the cache drive... booted up... stopped the array... added cache... started array... all seemed good... came back the next morning and i had all types of errors... i have given up on a cache drive... so i guess this doesnt need to go further... but it was strange... mat
