I just built a new unraid server and i cant seem to connect to it, there is no Tower icon under network.  my old unraid server has no problem connecting, i see the tower icon right away.  I'm using the latest Unraid software.  Please help.

layer 1... Physical... does the light on the mobo light up saying that you have a network connection...

2... check your router... does it assign an ip for this device???

3... from the server have you tried a ping command to google???

4... Report back on these basics....

There is some kind of connection as i have an icon called "SMCI_0:25:90:a2:ce:1b" under other devices.  Checked the routers attached devices and the unraid server is not listed here.  My old Unraid server shows up though.  what should i type to ping google?  The Unraid motherboard LAN socket LED's show as a solid green and the orange flashes intermittently.

Just checked my router and i do have an IP address of 192.168.0.5 when i type this in to my browser i get the supermicro monitoring program where i can monitor the servers temprature, voltages etc.

maybe there is another IP address to access unraids TOWER?

You are seeing the IPMI feature of many SM mobo's; and it's usually different than the systems primary IP. Do you have a monitor connected to the unRAID server?

From the new unRAID server's command line use:    ifconfig          you're going to be interested in eth0's inet addr: XXX.XXX.xxx.xxx

If the mobo has two RJ-45's (network connections) you might want to switch over to the other one because I think IPMI might be dedicated to one of them.

I hope that helps.......

Think i have solved the problem, my mobo requires two LAN cables to be connected to LAN1 and LAN2 to get a proper connection with unraid.

Im waiting for a cable to be delivered so that i can finally test it.

Here is a link that explains about it.    http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.phptopic=21839.0?
