December 14, 200817 yr unraid server has IP address on network and can get to it by typeing //tower. I've mounted all drives, ran parity and created a couple shares...not data moved at this point, as I can't see any of the shares or drives through network neighbourhood on my Upstairs PC on top floor. Network configuration: Top Floor - PC #1 connected to Airport Extreme functioning as a router Basement - PC#2 & Unraid server connected to a gigabit switch, which is hardwired also to an Airport Express functioniong as a bridge. So all machines get addresses from the router and everything is fine that way, but I cannot see the shares or drives listed in Network on the top floor PC (PC#1). I've also ensured that the unraid server's workgroup name is the name of the network and the same workgroup as all other PCs on the network. I've also restarted all PCs, including the unraid server. Until this is resovled, I can't copy any files to unraid.
December 14, 200817 yr Author To add: On PC#2 downstairs and connected via ethernet through the switch/Airport express, I can see my unraid server and the disks. As another issue: On PC#2 when I browse to the disk, I can see some data I laoded there, but no user shares. In the console, when I try and create a user share, it just resets the fields on the user shares screen and gives me no indication that the user shares have been created. Then as mentioned I can't see them on the network. I'm running the free version. Does the free version allow for user shares? However, I only have 1 data disk (1 data + 1 parity) right now. Does the fact that I have only 1 data disk negate the need for user shares? and thus they would only show up after I add another data disk?

User shares are created when you start the array for top level folders on your data disks. That have nothing to do with how many data disks you have, although they do consolidate the multiple parallel directories into one "logical" view of their combined contents. It sounds as if you have networking issues, and it has little to do with user shares. To determine if the shares exist, log in via telnet and type: ls /mnt/user and smbclient -N -L localhost
December 14, 200817 yr Author My network problems have mostlyl been resolved since I can now see tower in my network via other PCs (including ones not connected via ethernet on the second segment of my network. Problem is, I can't see user shares nor can I seem to create them. When I type the ls /mnt/user I get a message that says "transport endpoint is not connected" When I type the smb sambaclient command you gave me, I get informationabout the unraid server including the workgroup name, etc. It looks accurate, but doesn't show me any share information.
December 17, 200817 yr So info: unRaid server running 4.3.3 as the base with BubbaRaid on top. Connecting to the server using a Mac running OS X 10.5 is working just fine (connected via smb) Connecting via XP Pro (all updates) also works fine and the stuff shows up correctly **Connecting via Vista with updates seems to be giving me the problems. I am having similar problems right now with some of my user shares. I have a user share created (called DVD) that is spread across the physical disks 2 and 3. I can map the drive just fine but can't get any files to show. On disk1 there are some files relating to iTunes music i have stored, rtorrent downloaded files, nbz downloads, slimserver, etc. and that disk seems to be fine (and same with the user shares that are associated with it). If i map the physical drive i can see the .DS_Store files Mac OS X creates along with the DVD folder that should contain the DVD .iso files. Unfortunately it does not and I can not see the files from Explorer. I can see and play these files just fine on my Mac. I have user level security enables with all shares being exported as read only and then putting in my user info as an exception so that I can add and delete stuff. I have another user create that I have set as a "valid user" but only that, so in theory they should be able to see the files and folders but not modify them. I can't get the tower to show up in Vista's network also. I have made sure to set the workgroup to WORKGROUP. I will try another restart of the computer tomorrow but if anyone can shed some light on this that would be great. Thanks
December 17, 200817 yr I'm not sure I can help, but I can ask questions! Sittler27: What version of unRAID are you using? Also, it *might* help to display your ident.cfg, network.cfg, and share.cfg files, from the flash config folder. Are the appropriate top level folders created on Disk 1? prostuff1: I seem to recall there being possible fuse issues with early versions of BubbaRAID. It would be best to reboot into stock unRAID, and retest your issues.
December 18, 200817 yr fuse[/b] issues with early versions of BubbaRAID. It would be best to reboot into stock unRAID, and retest your issues. I am running the most current version of BubbaRaid. I am going to update unRaid and BubbaRaid when the new BubbaRaid is built. I guess the thing that is baffling me the most that the user shares and contents show up just fine on my Mac but not on this vista machine.
December 19, 200817 yr OK, an update on my situation: I did not lie but i just discovered that some of the files are not showing up in XP Pro anymore. It use to be working and kinda just assumed it would still be the same way, but it's not. Anyway, I seem to have figured out what might be the problem but i need some guidance on how to fix it. If i telnet into the server and navigate to /mnt/user/ i can see the folders just fine along with the folders inside those folders. When it comes to the files that is a different story. if i do an ls -l on the files inside the folder i get a different read, write, execute for the files i can see and the files i can't. On the files i CAN see i get a rwx of: -rwx------ On the files i CAN'T see i get a rwx of: rwxr-xr-x or rwxrwxrwx This is only happening on the Windows machines. On my Mac i can see ALL of the files just fine. I'm not quite sure why but it obviously has something to do with permissions and obviously Windows does not like or obey what is set on the files themselves. So i guess my question is; What is the chmod command to set the rwx to rwx------? Thanks for any help
