September 4, 201312 yr Posting this for my friend... He cant upload a syslog He says that after a reboot, suddenly one disk becomes "uninstalled" He is running rc11... Never had problems All his data on it , is reachable though through windows explorer.. Whats wrong..? Also he was going to upgrade to 5.0 stable one of these days.. Safe to do it now? Or fix it first?
September 4, 201312 yr If he can access the data on the uninstalled disk it is being simulated by parity. The release notes recommend doing the upgrade only on a system that is working properly. Why not fix it first? Why can't we get syslog and smart report for the drive?
September 4, 201312 yr Author yeah fix it first He switched sata cable-> didnt work switched sata port on mobo ->didnt work tried formatting under windows -> didnt work dead drive? he doesnt know how to give syslog
September 4, 201312 yr Author Is the disk red balled? "Uninstalled" is a little too vague... yes red, not blinking
September 4, 201312 yr I'm far from an expert on syslogs.. but all I see here with regard to your missing disk is this.. Sep 4 18:21:51 Server kernel: md: disk1 removed I see 3 disks found in the start up. 2 WD 30EZRX's and a Seagate ST3320820AS... Later on they are assigned to disk1, disk3, and the cache drive. This would lead me to believe that the disk is removed from the configuration - either because it was removed from the array, or it's not connected properly. I'd check data and power cords before I chase down to many other options.
September 8, 201312 yr Author Yesterday, suddenly he could assign the disk again. So he did, parity put the data back on the disk for hours. He let the server work all night. This morning , the disk had a red ball again with 31 errors...
